To SMRA Members
Attached please find a financial statement which reflects the 25/26 approved budget and projected actuals, and the proposed 26/27 budget for discussion and approval at the members’ meeting on Sat 6/20.
A few points to note –
The FY 25/26 budget, similar to the prior year, included expenses that exceeded income projections, essentially spending down a portion of the cash accumulated from prior year excesses of income over expenses

Current year actual revenue ended under what was budgeted
One significant decrease in the proposed expense for 26/27 is a reduction of support to other community organizations (South Midwood Pollinators and Our Lady of Refuge Food Pantry). With limited resources, it is not feasible for the SMRA to continue funding partner organizations at the current levels. For FY 25/26, we gave $1,000 of the $1,135 dues we raised to SMP/OLR, and essentially supported most other SMRA and SM community priorities out of accumulated funds from prior years.
If we were to continue the current FY 25/26 level of funding to SMP/OLR, our cash at 6/30/27 would be down to $700, and then close to zero a year later. In lieu of providing direct monetary support, the SMRA will more actively make efforts to promote both (and other community) orgs for SMRA members to contribute to directly
With a continued goal of expanding membership (and presumably with a need to spend some additional funds to do so), and perhaps also increasing the annual dues rate, there is of course potential for future fiscal year budgets to include both increased future funding of SM activities and increased future support to community orgs.
We look forward to a discussion around the budget and hearing feedback from the members at the meeting on Saturday.
Thanks,
Fred MartensTreasurer, SMRA
